Magda's Community Center #21: Boycott tomorrow

Magda Pecsenye

COMMUNITY CENTER

Hi, friends,

Thank you all for the rubrics! If you forgot to send me one, you still can. I had a great birthday and I have so much hope for the future.

This is just a reminder email about tomorrow's economic boycott. Is it going to fix everything? No way. Do we at least have to try? Yes. If we don't all participate as much as we can, how are we ever going to get out from under Musk and the Project 2025 gang? This is all going to conitinue to get worse until they push us too far and we push back. One day of not buying things isn't going to do it--we're going to need to buckle down and take away their power by not giving them our money for a longer period of time. But one day is a good start.

Tomorrow, please don't buy anything from anywhere that isn't a small local business or an independent online seller. If possible, only spend cash, don't use cards or online payment apps. If you need to fill prescriptions or buy gas, do it, but be as little a part of the consumer economy as possible.

Maybe tomorrow would be a good day to read a book or make some kind of art yourself. I'll be crocheting a baby blanket for charity out of donated yarn to really feel like I'm sticking it to the big companies dominating the economy. If you've got something that makes you feel like you're sticking it to them, tell me about it.

Love,

Magda

Magda Pecsenye COMMUNITY CENTER Hi, friends, It's been a full two weeks since I've written anything to you! In my defense, Mercury is in retrograde yet again and that affects communication, so the backward motion of the smallest planet is surely what's made me too busy to correspond. Things just keep collapsing in onto us, and I'm sure there's more horrible crap left to come on a Friday night as it always does. Twenty years from now, young people are going to ask us why we're on edge every...

Magda Pecsenye COMMUNITY CENTER Hi, friends, I am so livid right now about Chuck Schumer literally colluding with nazis by voting for cloture that I'm shaking, but what I really want to talk about is how lucky I have been in my life. I know a lot of us have trouble with awful people we went to high school with, and there are a few I never want to see again, but I have a surprising number of friends from high school that I still talk to frequently and make an effort to see when I'm near them....

Magda Pecsenye COMMUNITY CENTER Hi, friends, I keep thinking about how if we ever get out from under this destructive regime I will be so unbothered on a daily basis. I feel like I wasted a lot of years worrying that I wasn't living up to my potential, and just when I started figuring out how to work with my ADHD, the country collapses. All these systems that I thought I wasn't going to be able to navigate correctly because of my ADHD are caving in anyway. And the groups that were supposed to...
